Hispanic Heritage and the Impact of Giving
During the months of September and October, several Latin American countries celebrate their Independence Day. In 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson began the tradition of recognizing the last two weeks in September as Hispanic Heritage Month, but the four-week-long celebration we love today was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. Celebrations of culture through music, food, and worship are displayed from September 15 through October 15 during what is officially recognized as Hispanic Heritage Month.
Today, citizens with Hispanic ancestry make up about 18% of the United States population. Among this group, 77% are religious and identify with the Christian faith. Worship, praise, and giving are part of the religious experience in Spanish-speaking churches just as they are in English-speaking churches. However, the gap between Spanish-language giving technology and the respective places of worship and non-profits has been void for quite some time. With the rise of financial technology like mobile banking in every area of our lives, traditional giving is becoming more inconvenient. Supporting causes near and far is a hassle. Carrying cash and checks among younger generations is an afterthought. Doing all of this Spanish-speaking places of worship and non-profits? Nearly impossible and – more importantly – not simple.
Right now, the Givelify team is hard at work developing products and offering services that meet the need of our Spanish-speaking churches, non-profits, and donors to make giving simple and beautiful in Spanish as it is in English. During the heart of Hispanic Heritage Month, Givelify 3.0 will launch en Español.
For the next four weeks, we take an extra moment to appreciate the contributions of American citizens with ancestry from Latin American countries including the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, South America, and Spain. Inclusivity, simplicity, and integrity are at the core of Givelify’s values, so our support of the Hispanic community doesn’t stop after October 15. Our team of dedicated Givelify Success Coaches includes bi-lingual representatives who are available to help you meet your fundraising goals. This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate with you. Let’s continue to break barriers together, one simple joyful gift at a time.
